MINNEAPOLIS: DAID PUPPYPAWS

Speculative Vehicles Part I

April 26 – June 8, 2025

DAVID PETERSON GALLERY
4116 Cedar Ave South
Minneapolis, MN

In Speculative Vehicles Part I, Daid Puppypaws explores the radical possibilities of movement—physical, social, and political—through the lens of human-powered transportation. The exhibition channels the liberating spirit of riding a bike, skating a curb, or speeding down a sidewalk on Big Wheels, invoking childhood freedom and punk resistance in equal measure.

Puppypaws interrogates the corporate rebranding of “micromobility” while tracing its anarchist roots in the 1960s witte fietsenplan, which proposed freely shared white bikes as a vision of collective, fossil-free transit. Their work confronts how urban spaces continue to endanger or criminalize alternative forms of mobility—especially for those without the protection of a car.

The exhibition is not just about transport but about propulsion toward autonomy. Puppypaws, a Los Angeles–based artist and founder of BLACKNASA—a space agency teaching rocketry to underrepresented youth—fuses sculpture, sound, and social justice in a practice committed to freedom. Their work invites us to imagine new vehicles, new routes, and new futures, powered not by engines but by imagination and will.
