Known for his self-portraits and use of pop culture icons (such as Billie Holiday, Michael Jackson, and Zinedine Zidane), Lyle Ashton Harris creates work in photographic media, collage, installation, and performance to explore intersections between the personal and the political and the impact of ethnicity, gender, and desire on the contemporary social, global, and cultural dynamic. He will talk about his recent work and how he challenges viewers' perceptions and expectations by adjusting the familiar with the extraordinary.
