From inter-visions.com:
International
Visions Gallery is pleased to present Retrospective: Betty Murchison, a retrospective of paintings
from 1978 to 2014.
Betty Murchison has spent her life
examining intimate moments and relationships, more specifically those between
girls and women. Her figurative renderings are quiet, yet intense. Each work
envelops an instant in slow motion - a silent embrace, a glance across a
crowded room, a breath held in anticipation. Through cloudy color fields,
darted with lines to suggest silhouettes, Murchison channels the emotions
stirring within her subjects.
Murchison
has displayed her artwork extensively in Washington, DC, Chicago, Philadelphia
and Atlanta. She has exhibited in the Smithsonian Institute: Anacostia Museum
(Washington, DC), Banneker-Douglass Museum (Annapolis, MD), Isobel Neal Gallery
(Chicago, IL) International Visions Gallery (Washington, DC), Dizyners Gallery
(Philadelphia, PA), and the University of Maryland (College Park, MD). Her work
is included in the collections of HBO New York, Smithsonian Institute:
Anacostia Museum, and the City of Rockville, Maryland.
