COVER MUSIC: Ernie Barnes for the 1976 Marvin Gaye LP "I Want You"


COVER MUSIC is a BlackArtistNews feature that  examines artwork created by black visual artists for black music artists. It is a commentary on the visual, not aural aspects of these works and should not be mistaken for a music review. This installment appraises the album art by Ernie Barnes for Marvin Gaye's recording I Want You released on March 16, 1976.

36 years ago today, Motown Records released the Marvin Gaye LP I Want You which featured the work of Ernie Barnes.

Sugar Shack is one of the most revered images in Black visual culture.

The original is now owned by actor Eddie Murphy.
