From the New York Times:
Kabuki and Noh theater, kung fu, hip-hop, and the ballrooms of [the 1990 documentary film] “Paris Is Burning” converged in the debut of Iona Rozeal Brown’s “Battle of Yestermore.” This Performa Commission, held November 17th and 18th at Skylight Studios, was Ms. Brown’s first foray into live performance (unless you count her activities as a D.J.). It was like her paintings, but better.
