Noel Kirnon is listed among the "50 Under 50" art collectors in the Summer 2011 issue of Modern Painters magazine. It's the magazine's first celebration of young collectors worldwide.
From Modern Painters:
Kirnon once earned a living as a "senior executive at a major financial institution," he says. "Now I'm an extremely busy person of leisure." A member of the photography committee at the Guggenheim Museum, he spends a good portion of that time amassing work by the likes of Leslie Hewitt, Kerry James Marshall, Vik Muniz, Sara Vanderbeek, David Wojnarowicz, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. He cops to a "fascination with trains and donuts," the second obsession evident in his purchase of a number of Kenny Scharf's "Donuts in Space" pieces. "I collect work which I have a strong reaction," he explains. "Editing and focusing are a constant and enjoyable struggle."
